Do you mean jabref-3.3?  I am running Gentoo Linux (which does not
support gradle)  I am using a binary distributed version provided by 
one
of the developers.  As such a specialized build environment to prepare
the binary to work.  I do not have that and will have to contact the
maintainer.  I will try to compile this on my own, but the last time I
tried to the systems level reconfiguration seriously broke my system.  
Maybe a VM...
