The subject line is a rather bold statement because my earlier efforts to
bring the matter up had no effect. The fields are sometimes garbled, and my
efforts to fix the problem have failed.

For example, in BibTeX type InBook, the Author and Pages fields are
duplicated and what is typed in one is mirrored in the other. I could
remove or add fields in Customize Entry Types, but I find that neither
Apply or OK or Save All... and restarting JabRef save the changes. I
don't venture to delete one of the duplicated Author or Page fields
because I don't know whether doing so will remove crucial data from
thousands of entries in jabref databases.

How are customized fields saved in JabRef?
