Hi ... Thanks for the suggestions.  The beta version gave the same problem as 
2.9.2.  So V 2.8 remains the latest version I can run (but it satisfies my 
needs!)

I confirm I have the 64-bit version of Java runtime environment.  But given my 
current pressures, I am not keen to start experimenting with other versions.

So thanks for the feedback, but I'll leave it at this point for now
