You could try to install 32-bit Java on your 64-bit computer, and see if
that makes a difference (or, if you already are running 32-bit Java, try
the 64-bit version...). Another possibility is to try a different Java
version (e.g. Java 6 instead of 7).

Switching to Linux is certainly not official advice to get JabRef to work
:)  We do our best to make it work on both Windows, Mac and Linux.
