slachiewicz opened a new pull request, #1195:
URL: https://github.com/apache/maven-compiler-plugin/pull/1195

The page said JDK 9 compiles down to Java 6, which readers on JDK 17 or 21
take as still true. It now gives the range per JDK (9 to 11 down to Java 6, 12
to 19 down to Java 7, 20 and later down to Java 8), and the example defaults to
`release` 8. The "Java 5 or below" section stays: its `[1.5,9)` toolchain is
still the way to target Java 5.

   Part of apache/maven-site#1766.

   Verified: `javac --release` with JDK 11 accepts 6 and rejects 5; with JDK 21
accepts 8 and rejects 7.
