<p>In Maven 4+, an empty configuration element (such as {@code
<param></param>}
or {@code <param/>}) for a string parameter explicitly sets that parameter
to an empty string,
allowing users to override non-empty default values.</p>
<p>Note: for non-string scalar types (e.g. {@code int}, {@code boolean}), an
empty element is
treated as absent and the Java-initialized default is always preserved.</p>
