Would a `jdk9+` profile be useful if Maven 4 cannot run on JDK 8 anyway? Someone pointed out the case of toolchain, but that case would not be covered by the profile, isn't it? Alternatively, should the default value be simply removed? I remember a discussion years ago about having a stable default value. But since the Maven default also need to be upgraded from times to times, if a user didn't specified the target version, aren't we basically replacing his dependency to the Java version installed on his machine by a dependency to the Maven version installed on his machine? -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
