{{compileSourceRoots}} is used many times in configuration, eg to build project 
for multi release in single project pattern:

[https://github.com/apache/maven-compiler-plugin/blob/master/src/it/multirelease-patterns/singleproject-runtime/pom.xml]

so should be writable.
