I've no idea - you'd need to ask Apache Infra team... I guess it is done to reduce the load on Apache's own gitbox service. They are kept in sync so they should be identical. I believe the "source" url should stay at the Foundation's server/ dns though - makes sense in case they break up the partnership with github, for example (theoretical... but, you know, can happen...). -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
