Other than putting an extra effort on the shoulders of the release manager, I don't have any strong opinion on this. Uwe (I think) mentioned that we should increase the cadence of majors to align it with new Java features - if we're to follow this plan then this patch seems even more appealing because we can keep indexes compatible for longer (assuming nothing significant changes). -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
