   ### Description

   This fails for me every time on main:
   ```
   ./gradlew -p lucene/backward-codecs -Ptests.seed=CF895D81F5B12730 test
--tests TestIndexSortBackwardsCompatibility
   ...
org.apache.lucene.backward_index.TestIndexSortBackwardsCompatibility.searchExampleIndex(TestIndexSortBackwardsCompatibility.java:217)
   ```

   It's an interesting failure caused by random setting of max token length in
TestIndexSortBackwardsCompatibility:
   ```
   analyzer.setMaxTokenLength(TestUtil.nextInt(random(), 1,
IndexWriter.MAX_TERM_LENGTH));
   ```

   this clashes with an assertion that uses tokens that are longer later -
   ```
       topDocs = searcher.search(new TermQuery(new Term("body", "the")), 5);
       assertTrue(topDocs.totalHits.value() > 0);
   ```
