OK, I don't know if we want to go back and revisit all this stuff, but it seems to me as if we stumbled into requiring PerFieldCodec without necessarily realizing we had done so? Not sure if there is a better way to communicate that in the API, or if we need to actually support the non-PFC pathway (seems not, since we have a good way of doing this). I guess what I wonder is whether PFC shoulkd get "baked in" somewhere - like Codec? -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
