One might hypothesize that this issue is due to adapting HNWS to Lucene's approach to segmentation. This seems undercut by these observations: https://github.com/apache/lucene/issues/12627#issuecomment-1767662289 Key question: Does single-segment Lucene have the same rate of dis-connectedness as a stock or reference HNSW implementation, or more?
