by the way, the slowness was there from the start, just initially sporadic
because we only implemented 1 out of 6 functions.
it becomes more noticeable and reproducible now that more functions are
implemented. for example all 3 byte[] similarities are implemented so if you
just run `./gradle check` it will never complete because
`TestHnswByteVectorGraph` will always take an eternity.
