git archive is an option (it doesn't check for uncommitted/ staged files but I
assume it's not a problem). Another option is adding this to the build
(although it'll be tricky with all the exclusion patterns required).
One more subtle issue is that (I believe) the build assumes that git structures
are always available - it won't succeed on a "bare" set of sources... I'm not
sure how much of a problem this is.
