As per above the replacement change has been committed to master, branch_8x and
branch_8_8 branches.
And as intended previously I'll keep this ticket open until it's known if the
fix will be included in 8.8.0 or not. If not then the CHANGES.txt entry will
need to be moved out of the 8.8.0 section and the "Fix Version" attributes of
the JIRA be updated here.
