Subsequent to this change, Solr's
{{org.apache.solr.update.DirectUpdateHandlerTest#testPrepareCommit}} started
failing half the time -- try seed BECB842E499EAF75. It calls prepareCommit and
tests that there are more files after calling this than before. Look for a PR
momentarily that fixes this.
