Looked at the patch and seems like you cleaned up some of the mess :) Did not
get a chance to test it yet.
In my opinion we should merge this with SOLR-14106 since I believe they are
intertwined and will not be merged to 8.4.x but be released in 8.5. At least
that's my suggestion that I commented in 14106.
