Actually, I think what we've got so far with your changes (that I applied and
posted here as a patch) is a workable script worth having. I'm inclined to
commit it and then you can open a ticket for enhancements to it to keep the
discussion here from proceeding indefinitely and start keeping a history on the
changes in git rather than my gist.
