@szehon-ho Thanks for the detailed analysis. On the surface it does make sense to combine with existing compaction mechanisms like RewriteDataFiles if the metadata only RemoveDanglingDeleteFiles is cheap and especially if many users are already running RewriteDataFiles periodically anyways.
