`S3InputStream` sends invalid or unsatisfiable byte ranges to S3 for zero-length positional and tail reads. Return after buffer validation so empty reads complete without a `GetObject` request or metric changes. Existing non-empty reads retain their stream-closing behavior. Issue: None filed. Test plan: Unit tests verify that both empty reads avoid the S3 client, that positional reads leave metrics at zero, and that non-empty reads close their streams. `:iceberg-aws:build` passed with Docker and isolated local AWS credentials, including the RustFS integration suite. Tests requiring a real AWS account were skipped by their environment gates. --- **AI Disclosure** - Model: GPT-6 - Platform/Tool: Codex - Human Oversight: [unknown - human to fill in] - Prompt Summary: Fix zero-length S3 range reads and prepare a focused pull request with regression tests. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
