I know the pain of maintaining a self-hosted catalog. I suggest switching to a cloud-managed provider like AWS Glue. If you're running EMR, it supports both the standard Glue catalog and the REST catalog implementation out of the box. It also integrates well with other compute engines like Databricks and BigQuery.
