One noteworthy change that has been going on in 2.1.15 and saslauthd is the handling of realms. But, what puzzles me is that the change is not yet in the tarbal, so it can't be relevant for this issue. It will be in 2.1.16, I believe. Other than that, I notice that saslauthd does it's job in both cases, it is the IMAP side (or better, SASL library in the IMAP daemon) that is misfiring. Nix.
