Not neccessarily. For us, Postfix already does 3-4 LDAP lookups per message
(virtual users, local aliases, mail routing information, maildrop addresses
all coming from LDAP). One more lookup per message would not be a noticable
performance hit. Sure, you need a fast LDAP server. But if you do not have
it, you do not want to use LDAP in the first place...
