Complain to the distribution makers.

It would be a bad idea (think about other SASL-enabled software). Maybe you
should create a "sasl" group (like the "shadow" group for /etc/shadow) and
put the cyrus user in it.

Upgrade to 2.0.11 and modify /etc/cyrus.conf:

  imap          cmd="imapd" listen="[192.168.1.1]:imap" prefork=1
[...]
