You may use the @domain.com method.
Unfortunately, Cyrus don't admit dots in user names, as dots are (the only)
mailbox hierarchy separator. (Other IMAP servers, like Netscape's, allow to
use alternate characters as separator, such as a backslash).
So you have two options:
1. Patch the Cyrus sources to change the default separator from dot to
something else, maybe with a configuration option to this effect (and
hopefully contribute back the patches and get the Cyrus team to adopt them)
or
2. Change the delivery programs and the clients to substitute a different
character for the dot (this is what I use much to my dismay).
