I can only think of a few other things to suggest...

1. Did you also check the ownership/permissions of all directories leading up the config file? If any one of them is too restrictive, the config file won't be seen.

2. Double check your search form for spelling, bad tags, etc, that might affect the input tag that defines the config file. Double check the spelling of the config file name.

3. Your config file does end in .conf, doesn't it? That is assumed even though the suffix should not be included in the config input tag.

4. Try viewing source when you bring up your search page and check it for anything that looks suspicious.

5. Is the config directory that you are using the same as was configured when you built the ht://Dig package? That path doest get hard coded into htsearch.

6. Any chance that you have more than one copy of htsearch floating around? If there is a second copy, it might be that it was built with a different path for the config directory. You can usually pick the path out of the executable with something like 'strings' (e.g. strings htsearch | grep htdig).

Sorry if some of the suggestions seem obvious to you. I am just throwing out what I can think of since it otherwise seems like you have things set up in a reasonable manner.

Yes, I can run htsearch from the cli and get results back.

root:wheel owns the file with 644 perms.

As best I can tell, /usr/local/etc/htdig -is- what my compiled version wants for a config directory, but it says it cannot see the file.

Have you verified that the permissions and ownership on the config file and the directories leading to it are all sufficient to allow the web server to read the configuration?

Are you able run htsearch from the command line?

Jim
