You can certainly run multiple instances of htdig in parallel, and that
may help speed up the indexing process -- especially if you run htdig
on multiple machines with lots of bandwidth to the systems being indexed.
However, each instance of htdig must be operating on its own set of
databases.  You cannot have two or more instances of htdig accessing the
same database at the same time, or the database will surely be corrupted.
If you do generate multiple databases this way, you must then merge them
