Thank you for the prompt reply.

Before hp-toolbox would detect the printer, I had to run hp-setup.
Running hp-setup actually reinstalled the printer using this PPD file:

/usr/share/ppd/hpijs/HP/HP-PSC_1200-hpijs.ppd

The old installation used this PPD file:

/etc/cups/ppd/HP-PSC-1210.ppd

I believe the old PPD file was installed using the CUPS web interface.
In any case, the new PPD file works as expected.

Now I just need to figure out where the old file came from so that I can
file a proper bug report...
