Would it be possible for you to upgrade to the latest hplip from source?

Hello,

I've my old Deskjet 690c connected to the parallel port of my server.
Printing works using CUPS, although in the web interface I can see "hp
no_device_found" when selecting the device (at the moment I've
selected LPT#1, which works).

That doesn't affect if anybody in the LAN wants to send a job to the
printer: it prints.
The problem starts when I want to align the cartridges or clean them,
because I can't use hplip's tools.

Until some days ago my thought was that parallel port wasn't supported
by hplip, since I was using Debian sarge and the included hplip
package was old and I read somewhere that parallel wasn't supported
for that version.

Now I've upgraded to etch and hplip version is 1.6.10. But the problem
persists. This is the output from "hp-setup -g":

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 1.6.10)
Printer/Fax Setup Utility ver. 3.1

Well, the first error can be omitted since I'm connecting from terminal.

I've read that "ppdev" module has to be loaded in order to get this
working an "parport" too. These are the modules I've loaded related to
the parallel port:

lp 11496 0
ppdev 10180 0
parport_pc 37796 1
parport 43272 3 ppdev,parport_pc,lp

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I can't get this working. Any ideas?

Thanks a lot,

Julen.
