Hey guys, going back a little in time to June, I started a thread about the
Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 speaker system for my computer; I had problems back
then b/c my sub was blown and I was wondering what I should do about that.

Well fast-forward to a couple weeks ago, it's 3am and I'm in bed and I hear
a loud POP from the direction of my computer and I'm like uh-oh! When I
checked the next morning it looked like the control unit just died (not sure
how too since it's on a UPS, so not due to a power surge-guess it just gave
up the ghost maybe?).

Anyway the system is basically totally dead now, though what's funny/ironic
is that the other 5 speakers in the system and the wires are all fine! I
feel bad just tossing them out; any ideas on how I could possibly utilize
them and replace the set?

The problem is that everything connected through the sub, so to replace that
I'd need some sort of receiver/decoder that could handle the 3.5mm TRS
inputs from my soundcard or something right.? I was using 3 of those to the
sub (the green, black and gold as per
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRS_connector) and then speaker wire from the
sub to all the speakers (with the control unit having it's own connection to
the sub).

In the meantime I got a pair of the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 speakers on
sale at Amazon for $99-which seems like a great deal. They sound awesome
but they're only 2-channels and I'm not sure I don't want to get 5.1 for
gaming and stuff.so just wondering what thoughts people might have as to how
to solve my dilemma (possibly come up with a configuration that uses the 5
speakers I have now that're still good with my computer)?

Oh, I forgot to mention, I was googling computer speakers and apparently
they don't even make 5.1 computer speaker systems (new ones at least); on PC
Mag, the most recent 5.1 computer speaker reviewed is the Logitech Z-5500
which still goes for $400 on Amazon (yikes!) and the Klipsch ProMedia
Ultras, which are both from 2004/5!! Very weird, no?!
