You can get them as low shank and slant shank attachments...think the needle placement is the same on old low shank as modern low shank...
Go dig it out!
They make the best buttonholes! It is even worth getting a 'vintage' machine and just keeping it as a buttonhole machine <G> if your modern machine has a different foot system.

Carol-of course this is a person who keeps multiple machines up and ready to sew....you just go from machine to machine if you need to change threads...
