Hi All,
Back to my Grandmother's notes on clothing. She told me that red flannel
absorbed "leakage" so that no stain went through to the nicer petticoats and
dress skirt, and did not much show the stain itself. Of course the whites were
boiled and scrubbed with lye soap. She still kept a bar of lye soap to use when
I was a little girl and would help her wash with the old wringer washer. She
told me of the hand operated wringers that pre-dated the electric and of shirts
for men and women that buttoned either way and shoes that had no left and right
and socks and stockings that had no heel, as we have again now. She taught me
so much. Audy.
