Thanks Roger, I'll install gtkmm-2.6.3 to the upgraded gtk-2.6. But I need to install libsigc++ also right? If yes which version of it. Apart from this is there any other library/patch which I need to install for enabling GTK with C++.

Your version is rather outdated, so it would be highly advisable to upgrade to a more current release before doing any development. The current stable release of Gtkmm is 2.6.3, and this works with GTK+ 2.6. You'll need to upgrade GLib and GTK+ before building it. If you use a decent GNU/Linux distribution, you should already have GTK+ 2.6 and Gtkmm 2.6 available (or at least the 2.4 versions).
