What viewer are you using? Does the PDF render okay if you use gv (or gsview on Windows) to display it? Check if the output of pdffonts <pdffile> (from the poppler-tools package) contains a line similar to name type encoding emb sub uni object ID --------------------------------------------------------- TPTBSA+Symbol Type 1C Custom yes yes no 10 0 (where the first six characters of the font name are random).
