apache/datafusion#25783 still needs a review, and after that we'd need a DataFusion release that includes it, so I opened #6899 as a short-term fix for #6001. It keeps your Scala change and plans the shape natively as a `count(1)` aggregate under an empty projection, which works on DataFusion 55.2.0.
