Hi,
I’ve run a test with the latest version by deliberately misconfiguring it and I
got the following message:
[jar:file:/C:/…/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/lib/gs-gwc-2.11-RC1.jar!/geowebcache-diskquota-context.xml]:
Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Could not locate a layer or layer group with
id LayerInfoImpl-xxxxxx:-646d within GeoServer configuration, the GWC
configuration seems to be out of synch
It still appears to get stuck at around 10K classes.
My comments relate to the system being about to continue the load process even
with errors. The logic is simply that some of my layers don’t have a tile cache
so surely a misconfigured tile cache should have the same result (i.e. the
layer would exist but the tile caching would be disabled).
What actually happens is that GWC spots the error but then prevents the
GeoServer from loading at all.
This seems a bit odd to me.
Paul

Subject: Re: [Geoserver-users] Error checking for misconfigured gwc-layers
Hi Paul,
I may be wrong, but believe this change has already been made in 2.11 as part
of the
large refactor to improve startup times.... but I might be wrong.
Care to check it out and verify?
Cheers
Andrea

Hi,
We had another GeoServer failure today as a result of a misconfigured entry in
our gwc-layers folder. The message was:
- Could not locate a layer or layer group with id…
We have also had it complaining about duplicate layer entries in the past.
Whilst I understand that these are errors and should be logged; could something
be done to handle such exceptions? It seems crazy to me that the whole server
fails to load just because the GeoWebCache can’t find a layer, couldn’t it just
delete the file and move on?
Surely a misconfiguration of the tile cache should disable caching for the
layer in question rather than bring down a whole GeoServer?
I’m happy to log it on whichever is the appropriate project if others think it
is a good idea but I thought I’d mention it to see if others also think this is
a bug worth logging.
Cheers,
Paul
