Hi Daniel and others,

I have now again tried to install gentoo :)

I got everything right, including lilo, partitions etc.

Problem: trying to startup i get the following - "Kernel panic init
killed"

To try and see whats wrong here is hard, as I cannot access logs. Any
ideas? - in the meantime ... i will look over docs again ... is it
possible to setup ssh and get a friend to install it for me ... or do
you need the local machine.

Btw: I installed stage 3 as i have not yet received a net connection
at home.

For the idiot (hermann) - I don't want to start a mailing list war,
but I have the following comments for you and people like you.

1. If you are subscribed to a mailing list - it is polite to help
someone, not post stupid comments.
2. If you are a guru then you should also know that you were once a
newbie ?
3. If you are a newbie, how the hell do you become a user if you cant
even get simple advise or assistance.
4. I have successfully been runing a gentoo server for about 1 year,
now i want to use it as a desktop enviroment. Logical yes.

So ... take you stupid comments and shove them, i have now lost all
respect for you, and the idea that a newbie cannot progress.

I do value your comments, yes, they are um ... enlightening.

I will now install Mandrake, as it is more newbie orientated ?

Thanks for your brilliant assistance.

Regards,

Steven Mac Intyre (Salk)
