Agreed .. the devmanual doesn't expand a lot on this, and many of the other ebuild variables A, S, etc and how to properly use them.
The 'emake' statement is part of default phases in EAPI5+ so this may/should(?) not appear in newer ebuilds I would have thought, but perhaps someone could clarify on this. Michael.
