No, I don't think that's necessary. If avidemux keeps patching ffmpeg (beyond line-endings), I don't think it is wise to make system-libs the default. I originally took on this package when I became a Gentoo dev ~5 years ago, but I hardly use it anymore and I don't have the time to maintain this.
