I have some qualms about this as a stand-alone project. It's a conversion tool between two defined formats. You will build it, it will get done, and then what? What will keep a community engaged? If would make more sense to imaging some project that was in the business of building and maintaining a suite of related tools, where new things could be expected to come up.
