I can tell you that those decisions are made above Rob's and my pay grades. Way above. I can tell you that when I was brought into this discussion (mere days before it was decided), there were four foundations under consideration. My input at the time was that they were all fine choices, and that in the event that the ASF was the choice I could help. I made it clear that I would not be advocating for any choice as the ASF and retold a story of a time when I was asked to help with a proposal and Eclipse decided that they really wanted it and the project eventually went to Eclipse. Search the archives for Kabuki if this interests you. Shortly thereafter, it was clear that the ASF was the first choice, and I helped answer a bunch of questions, and helped negotiate the Software Grant.
