I haven't waded in but from a technical view point, you can use Go[1] or Ada tasking with RTEMS on embedded targets. We have BSPs for free simulators for nearly all 18 targets. That would provide coverage of the tasking portions on close to bare metal. [1] Disclaimer: RTEMS had good test results for Go until it switched to ucontext.h which we don't have.
