incentive to rework such a sensitive piece of code. :)

I admit, CI going back to green for pru-unknown-elf certainly removed
the pressure :)

It's up to you.  I think it would be worth pushing the patch
(with the comments below) as an experiment, with the understanding
that we'll back it out if it turns out to cause too much breakage.
Like I say, we'd at least then gather information about what the
constraints are.
Agreed. We'd get some coverage from my tester and this has been a problem area. If it's horribly problematic we'd know.
