The default for MAX_FIXED_MODE_SIZE is now changed, committed at r16-2769-gac421ac33ed6, which as mentioned incidentally covers this PR (which doesn't mention mips64-elf, which was reported to show an identical breakage; maybe it should). The patch targeted at this PR (linked) is still in flight. I don't see valid arguments against it and no counterarguments against my arguments for it. I intend to get back to this in about a week.
