Hi,

I'm encountering a compilation error when I build gcc 14.2.0 with gcc 13.3.0 on
Ubuntu 24.04. I'm not quite sure how to diagnose it, can someone please point
me in the right direction?

The error message:

/home/ssmedley/gcc/build-14.2.0/./gcc/xgcc
-B/home/ssmedley/gcc/build-14.2.0/./gcc/ -fno-checking -xc -nostdinc /dev/null
-S -o /dev/null -fself-test=../../gcc-14.2.0/gcc/testsuite/selftests
xgcc: fatal error: cannot execute 'cc1': posix_spawnp: No such file or
directory
compilation terminated.

config.log (gzipped) is attached.

Here's the steps I use to download/build gcc (which has worked many times in
the past, for earlier versions):

ver=14.2.0
wget
http://ftp.tsukuba.wide.ad.jp/software/gcc/releases/gcc-$ver/gcc-$ver.tar.gz
tar xvf gcc-$ver.tar.gz
cd gcc-$ver/
./contrib/download_prerequisites
mkdir ../build-$ver
cd ../build-$ver
../gcc-$ver/configure --enable-languages=c,c++ --prefix=/usr/local/gcc-$ver
--disable-multilib
make -j 4
make install

gcc -v output:
