I re-read Comment 5 and understand it this time ;v) . Well, any solution should
fix both tellg and tellp, since the pointers are the same upon synchronization.

Then, yes, we need to check which type of operation occurred last, and either
update whichever pointer is stale, or selectively use the correct one.
