Apologies for the late note --- but can we confirm that the posted code
is indeed from the GNU project (and therefore GPLed)?
The code seems very different from the tail.c in the GNU coreutils 8.30
code (available via https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/coreutils/), though I may be
missing something.
