That command in CONFIG.SYS tells MS-DOS that the system has a single
1.44MB 3.5" floppy drive. I don't remember anymore why MS-DOS provided
this command. I think it was to speed up floppy drive access.
FreeDOS does not support drivparm. I asked him what happens when he
removes the line from his config.sys? I think FreeDOS should query the
floppy drive on its own, not sure why he says it doesn't work. I
assume Michael should be safe in removing this from his FreeDOS
FDCONFIG.SYS.
You *need* DRIVPARM, for example, on a Tandy 1000HX. There the BIOS can't
tell DOS that the A drive is a 720K type, so DOS thinks it's 360K, and you
need a DRIVPARM command to correct DOS's misconception of the parameters.
