The FreeDOS kernel as a combination of code uses the GNU GPL (version 2, 
possibly also v3 if someone prefers) as copyright license. Parts might 
have been derived from code that's released as public domain, LGPL, MIT, 
BSD or some other license.

The short version of the GPL is that you'll have to make the (modified) 
source code for a program/binary available to anyone you distribute the 
binary to. Usually it's most convenient to already deliver the 
sourcecode together with the binary.
